Ryan Johnson serves as Executive Director of the Rochester Academy of Medicine (RAOM), where he leads an organization with a storied legacy of advancing medical education, fostering professional collaboration, and serving the Greater Rochester community since 1900. He took over the role in January of 2023 with the goal of continuing the tradition of leaders of the Academy of Medicine, while expanding the Academy's role in the community to better serve all Rochesterians. Housed in the magnificent Lyon Mansion. RAOM remains a vital hub for healthcare professionals and the public.

Prior to joining the Academy, Johnson served as the Director of the Hospitalist Department for Rochester Regional Health, guiding these critical departments through some of the toughest times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. His postsecondary education began at Le Moyne College, where he studied history and played on the college's rugby team. After two years at Le Moyne, he transferred to Florida Atlantic University to study Healthcare Administration and Economics. Ryan is currently working on his master's in healthcare policy and leadership through the University of Denver.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Seneca Falls, NY, Johnson has a strong sense of community and values the importance of all organizations—large and small—working together for the common good. He envisions the Academy continuing to grow its footprint in the Rochester and Upstate New York area, with a focus on educating professionals and the community at large on a wide range of healthcare topics. Another major focus is increasing RAOM's role and presence in creative arts therapies and bringing the arts to members of the Academy and the community. Johnson also takes tremendous pride in caring for and making improvements to the beautiful space the Academy calls home, and he is committed to doing all he can to bring the home back to its brilliance of the early 1900s.

With a career rooted in nonprofit leadership and community health initiatives, Ryan brings a passion for bridging clinical expertise with real-world impact, delivering truthful, evidence-based health information that empowers better decisions for all.

Ryan lives in Pittsford with his wife, Kalie, and their three young children, Reese, Georgia, and McCoy. When he's not at work, Ryan likes to golf, travel, cook, and spend time with his family every chance he gets.

Ryan invites everyone to join RAOM—whether as a member, volunteer, or partner—in preserving this Rochester treasure and shaping the future of healthcare together.

Welcome to the Rochester Academy of Medicine. The door is open. Let’s make history.
